SIRSI.
| Sirsi
is a beautiful town, situated in the Northen part of Karnataka. The
name Sirsi originates from a Kannada term "SHIRA", which means the head. It is the largest town in the district of North Kanara, known for its arecanut business. Sirsi also produces spices like black pepper & cardamom. It also produces coconuts. |
|
| The
greatest thing about this place is its people. They are very warm
hearted and peace loving. Their affability and their helpful attitude make Sirsi even more beautiful. The population of Sirsi is above 80000. Majorities of the people are of the "Havyak" community who constitute more than half of the total population. Most of these people indulge in agriculture and reside in villages. So you can say Sirsi is not confined to the town but extends to all those villages in and around. Another community which dominates the population especially is the Saraswat and the Gowd-saraswat Brahmins. I belong to this community. Muslims and Christians also form a part of Sirsi. |
