UMBC seeks outstanding
chess-player scholars for possible undergraduate merit scholarships.
High school students in top 10% of class with SAT > 1400 and USCF
rating > 2000 are are invited to contact Alan T. Sherman.
Among these scholarships are the University Scholars Program
(full four-year tuition + room and board), and the
Meyerhoff Program for any gifted students
(not restricted to minorities)who wish
to study science, mathematics, or engineering (full four-year
tuition + room and board + computer + stipend + much more). These
merit scholarships are for USA citizens (or permanent residents)
coming directly from high school.
To apply, submit a standard
undergraduate application to UMBC and indicate your interest in chess
in your essay. Include documentation of your chess accomplishments.
Follow same deadlines as for all merit scholarships:
For full consideration, it is recommended that the completed application
be received by December 1 (for fall admission); March 1 is the
latest possible date for consideration. Decisions are typically
made in February and early March.
