Introduction and fundamentals of computer design (chapter 1)

Memory hierarchy design (chapter 2)

Pipelining, Instruction level Parallelism and its limits (chapters 3)

Computer Arithmetic (Appendix J in the textbook by David Goldberg )

Topics in Cryptology and Cybersecurity (time permitting)

Evaluation :
(i) Mid term exam 40%
(ii) Final exam 50%
(iii) Homeworks (about 4), 10%

Goals of the Course :

To develop an understanding of the principles and practices employed in the design and evaluation of processors and computer systems. We shall also consider security issues related to computer architecture (Up till now, security issues have largely been ignored for the most part... Experience shows that trying to achieve security as an "after-thought" most often leads to disasters. Security attributes must be considered at every step right since the beginning).
