Monthly Report: 11/15/2000 - 12/15/2000 Name: Honglin Su, Technology Account Specialist, Central Region 1. SUMMARY More exposure at the customers, and have been developing customer relationship and working with sales reps. to building support strategy in the coming months. 2. Accounts Activities * AT&T Canada and AT&T Global Network Service A lot of efforts have been put into the account during the month, with John, we visited quite a few persons in the organization. Meanwhile, AT&T Canada is also experiencing their own organization changing. John is going to meet the people in the executive level, while Ken and myself will refresh Sun's technology for them. AT&T Canada is using some contract consultants to plan for their network management project. The current environment includes 4 HP D-class/C-class servers, and 4 Sun E450, the application is HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) 5.01 to manage 6000 nodes. The customer intends to go with one platform either Sun or HP. To educate those consultants and to facilitate future cooperation, I gave a 1.5 hours presentation to them, which answered their outstanding questions about Sun's product and technology, also covered overview of server, storage, and cluster; To develop this presentation, thank Ken and Peter for their valuable help. Our value proposition is to deliver a reliable, cost effective server solution and easy migration path, which also meets the customer's layered reliability requirement (single node redundancy, cluster, etc.) 1. Make sure that HP OpenView NNM 5.01 and 6.1 can be migrated from HP-UX to Sun Solaris (this is supported by HP); 2. Replace HP servers with 5xE220R or 5xE250 , also upgrade the existing E450s and add one new E450 for backup; 3. Coordinated with Enterprise Service, brought a maintenance quotation to the customer; 4. Let OnX quote for servers, which follows AT&T Canada procure routine; AT&T Global Network Service here reports to AT&T US directly. Their business is some kind of service provider. Met them a couple of times, also invited them to our OpenHouse. Since it is a new account for Sun, I am going to work with John to discover more opportunity. * Rogers & C1 communications Standalone E280R can not be ordered at this time, the current configuration is E280 bundled with T3. So for Rogers, E280R is not a choice at this very moment. * Motorola Canada Followed up last month's effort, 2 new E3500 have been installed at the customer design center. Also, arranged time and coordinated enterprise service for their 9xE3500 memory upgrade (each one from 512MB to 2GB). This is a good experience to work with service, reseller, customer, and our internal logistic group. * Sun Life Financial Discussed with technical manager at Spectrum Investments, sanitized the configuration for their web environment; Also, met with system staff, got inside information from the customer. Will arrange time to update Sun's technology in the near future. 3. TRAINING SUMMARY * Cluster 3.0 and Solaris TOI. 4. MISCELLANEOUS ACTIVITIES * In the process of implementing the JETS: Java Equipment Tracking System, a Java-based on-line application from Ottawa office. The equipment inventory has been built in JETS. Came across some small problems in our environment, and got resolved with help from Dave Harrison of Ottawa. Mukesh Bhalla is beginning to use JETS to track the equipment status. * Presented NAS: N8200 at the TGIF meeting, it was a very quick product overview. * Volunteer for Kids' Christmas party; 5.
