SUMMARY + This is not an usual month, I met so many nice persons, I have settled down well and are working with a great team. Special thank to Daniela, who is my SunVisor. She gave me a lot of help, let me get familiar with our working environment, how to discover information in Sun, and how to deliver quality technical support to customers. + Picked up the SE knowledge, and catch up the speed with our SE team, actively took part in ISPcon'2000 for setup, booth duty, and packed the machines until the last minute. + Worked closely with Daniela, supported the E10K benchmark test for TransAmerica. + Other relevant activities: - attended ALL HANDS kickoff meeting of the central region on 2/1; - set up the workstation for Identrus webcasting, although I could not attend that meeting on 2/9, I felt so happy that it went on well. - help Gilberto for StorEdge A5000 deployment at customer site (OPG) on 2/3; - etc. ---> Please see highlights. 2. HIGHLIGHTS + Transamerica Life Insurance has requested a benchmark test for E10K capacity planning. As a follow up with Daliena's effort, I accompanied the customers at Benchmark Centre in Beaverton, Oregon to complete the benchmark test during the week Feb. 13 to Feb. 19. - As a SE to support the customer at our benchmark centre, my major responsibility is to be the coordinator and contact point between customers and Sun benchmark centre. Fully understand customers' requirement, work closely with Daniela and Beaverton benchmark centre SE Akiko, to make the whole benchmark testing as smooth as possible. - The testing is still going on now, our customers Boon and Clarence from TransAmerica Life Insurance, worked very hard. All of us are looking forward to seeing a rather good result before this Friday. Our daily working hours are around 18 hours. - It's good for me to build teamwork with our SEs, and started working with our customers. 3. TRAINING SUMMARY + I spent most of time to pick up SE's knowledge during this month: - Full product line, focus on Enterprise Server, also prepared a brief presentation on this; - SunRay hotdesk architecture, also worked with Thin Client task team to set up SunRay demo for our Channel product update as well as at ISPcon'2000, and evangelized this vision and technology to visitors at the show. - online self study, which covered a broad extent of SE knowledge. - attended a couple of Solaris 8 readiness presentation by ACE, as well as Ken's wonderful brief, get to know why Solaris 8 is a dotcom environment. + Registered one session of Computer Systems field new hire training, which focuses on Sun's vision, business/sales model, and team selling philosophy, includes market and industry focus, product positioning, and sales simulation. It will happen during the week of April 8 - April 15. 4. PLAN FOR THE UPCOMING MONTH + Continue online self study, prepare some kinds of brief presentation on storage, software, etc. + Continue to build fundamental SE skills, get to do how to work well with our customers. + Attend 2nd wave of SE symposium in California from 2/26 to 3/1.
