UMBC CMSC201, Computer Science I, Fall 1994
Sections 0101, 0102 and Honors
Thursday September 8, 1994
Assigned Reading: Chapter 1
Handouts (available on-line):
Topics Covered:
- Administrative details: office hours, grading policy, project
policy and late policy. See handouts.
- Areas of ongoing research in Computer Science.
- Why is it hard to debug programs? Combinatorial explosion
is one reason. To test a program that adds 100 numbers
from 1 to 100 on all possible inputs would take more
years than there are particles in the universe on a computer
that can check a billion cases a second.
